Dare to get Bare in
Greece (Naturists Paradise)
Greece has an
abundance of islands with known or semi-"official" nude beaches.
While in reality any secluded stretch of Greek sand may be a
nude beach at times, those who have been bare there before
attest that some stretches of beach are more nude-friendly than
others.
Here is a quick
list of islands with known nude beaches in Greece.
Myrtiotissa beach
backed by high rock
cliffs, has been described as one of the most dramatically
beautiful beaches in the world and
has always been attracted by naturists. Myrtiotissa was founded
by the hippies during the 70's who actually created a narrow
path all the way down because the beach was inaccessible. That
path got bigger and bigger over the years as more and various
kinds of people were discovering this "well-kept secret".
Nowadays, a lot of those hippies now in their 50s, are still
visiting the place, some with their families. Also a lot of
people from every part of the island of Corfu are coming to
Mirtiotisa to enjoy this wonderful atmosphere. As for the path,
it still remains dirt road.
This beach is
almost entirely naturist, especially in the southern
Mirtiotissa beach is
known as Corfu's nudist paradise. It is also known as "the only
beach in the Corfu where nudism is officially tolerated".
It’s located around 13 km west of Kerkyra town, just next to
Glyfada beach. The natural beauty, breathtaking cliffs, wild
vegetation, rocks planted everywhere and a steep dirt downhill
give Mirtiotisa that "something" special.
Myrtiotissa, the cleanest of all beaches in Corfu, remains
unspoiled by modern civilization. Its morphology is the main
reason why this place has been undeveloped over the years.
Marathia: Newly
developed resort with long stretches of sandy beaches. Nude
bathers can also swim there. This is a wonderful region worth
visiting.
The Hotel
Vritomartis This is a naturist hotel - which means it is
nude-friendly. It’s named after the Minoan mermaid known as the
"Sweet Maiden", a daughter or alternate form of the potent
goddess Diktynna, who is also sometimes represented as a
mermaid. It's located on the south coast of Crete in a beautiful
secluded area which is still relatively simple to reach by car.
It offers some great views. The Vritomartis is a full-service,
85-room naturist hotel offering a wide variety of activities in
addition to the sunbathing opportunities.
Here's how the
hotel describes it: "Our resort is a licensed naturist resort
and broadly follows the guidelines laid down by the
International Naturist Federation: none of the indoor areas of
the hotel are naturist while all the outside areas are naturist
from sunrise to sunset. Naturism is required by the pool and on
the beach.
Filaki Beach, near
the hotel is the only "official" nude beach on Crete. While the
beach is adjacent to the hotel, it's separate and can be visited
even if you are not a guest.
Nude beach on
Mykonos
This beach is
nudists super Paradise. It's reachable by small boat from Platys
Gialos. You can take a local bus to Paradise and walk a
picturesque path with some mild scrambling to reach Super
Paradise. Once there, there are taverns and facilities.
